Soul Sustenance: Stirring Up the Creative Juices

Working in a creative field like makeup artistry is so rewarding. But just like any job, there are moments that are sometimes stressful, mundane, meticulous and the like. It’s very easy to get stagnant in any work situation, and we sometimes forget why we started at all! I know for me, there are times when I just feel…tired and uninspired. When that happens, I pray for opportunities to be creative in the most satisfying way.

Those prayers always pay off! My good friends Max and Ron (photographers from Scottsdale and Los Angeles respectively) recently invited me to create some art with them on beautiful model Amberley. I initially met them when we shot imagery for the brand Boda Skins, and their talent is ridiculously inspiring. As I think back on this wonderful session, I am reminded of how important it is to feed my soul creatively!

I’m always talking about how important it is to work hard for what you want, but there’s a B side to that. Working too hard and stressing out can really sap creativity. In contrast, taking time to create freely can reignite it! Being around people like Ron and Max make everything fun and light, and that’s something my soul really needs. They sketched out their ideas for the looks and we worked with an easy sense of intention. The product of such a relaxed and fun shoot is a set of images that the whole team is proud of. Check out the photos and a product breakdown below!

I want to encourage you that if you feel like you’re stressed or in a rut, take some time to create something that is different from your norm. Art is the quickest way to ease your mind!
