Musical Therapy: A Few Of My Favorite Female Country Songs

The right country song gives me all the feels…

There’s something about the storytelling aspect of this genre that takes my heart somewhere. I can’t help but also notice how many strong female role models there are within country music... it makes me so proud to see women writing, playing and performing meaningful music. I was reminded of this when I heard a few beautifully written songs by Kacey Musgraves at work. That sparked my interest in putting a little best of playlist together.

I tend to sing these songs at the top of my lungs in the car…and the house and in the grocery store…

I’m the type that hears music and sings along to it everywhere. This playlist is full of country songs that just move me. I especially love a song that’s beautiful lyrically and tells me a story. My taste within this type of music runs the gamut, but I tend to like country with more of a pop sensibility. I also dug up a few live performances of some of these gems. I’ll jot down a few thoughts and lyrics from my top three faves. 🙂

Kacey Musgraves, Space Cowboy

I think Kacey is something of a rebel in country music, which is admirable to me. The way she writes keeps you interested and engaged throughout the song. Golden Hour is one of the first records in awhile that I listen to from start to finish.

Sara Evans, A little Bit Stronger

This is a song that grabbed me from the beginning. Her voice is so sweet and clear, but so full of power and emotion. This is a grocery store jam, I’m never ashamed when people hear me singing it there. 🙂

Reba McEntire, You’re Gonna Be

I mean, Reba is a legend. She’s super talented, with a super unique voice and so many accolades. Listening to this song has been known to make me shed a few nostalgic tears. 🙂

“Anything worth doing is worth doing all the way. Just know you’ll have to live with all the choices that you make.”
