A Skin-Smoothing, Energy-Boosting Drink To Replace Your Morning Coffee!

I will admit that I am not much of a coffee advocate. I do however know people who can’t even bear to smile in the morning without their Venti triple espresso. Allow me to offer an absolutely delicious alternative that gives you energy, antioxidant power and skin smoothing benefits. Turmeric milk, or golden milk, is an optimal health tonic that is delicious and simple to make!  I alternate between juicing and drinking golden milk in the mornings. My twist on this drink is that I make it with non dairy milk and cocktail a large variety of spices. The star of this drink is turmeric, which boasts a copious amount of antioxidants, antiviral and antibacterial properties!

What are the health benefits of turmeric?

Turmeric is a golden yellow spice that is used in Asian curries. It is often used in Indian households as an all around health treatment. When incorporated into your diet, turmeric can:

  • treat disease
  • ward off colds and coughs
  •  aid in digestion
  • soothe headaches

One of the most exciting things about drinking golden milk is what it can do for your skin:

  • Heal wounds quickly
  • Protect from sun damage
  • Prevent skin cancer
  • Balance oily skin
  • Reduce acne scarring

Though all these stats are exciting to see, I still found myself a bit intimidated when I first used the bright yellow powder. But I absolutely love it now and have incorporated fresh turmeric into my juices as well! Drinking golden milk in the morning boosts my energy the same way that coffee would, all while providing a host of skin and overall health benefits! One tip that is a must when making anything with turmeric is to add a dash of black pepper. Not only does it enhance the flavor, but it increases the bioavailability of circumin. Turmeric and black pepper are kind of like a frick and frack situation. Here’s what you’re going to need:

 

 

 

This recipe makes two cups of golden milk. Share with your lovers and friends! 

2 Cups Coconut Milk (Note: I use coconut milk because I love it and because I rarely drink cow’s milk)

1/8 teaspoon cloves

1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

2 tablespoons raw honey

Pinch black pepper

 

How To Make It! 

Pour the milk into a small saucepan and let it warm over medium heat.

 

Add all the ingredients. Whisk together until very smooth!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pour into two cups and enjoy it while it’s warm!
